I think the best two drummer band I have ever seen is the Doobie Brothers. They have always had dual drummers and the overall sound is extra-ordinary. They never try to outdo one another quite the contrary as the play in perfect sink with witty and technically advanced fills.
IIn my opinion no other group has come close to achieving the level of success the Doobie Brothers have made using the two drummer concept.

I have some theories on what's happening to the youth of America and it has something to do with 911, the Bush administration and the lack of anarchists in our culture all contributing to a failing of people to keep the energy of such things as drum circles focused and positive with the result being that many community drum circles are being over run by alcohol use, which for whatever reason, just doesn't seem to work well with drum circles.
Hopefully, the change I feel blowing in the wind will run through the feet and hearts of our young people and we'll get it together again. A positive and creative drum circle lifts the world up a notch, while a drunken mess of bangers gets on everyone's nerves.

"Realistic Rock" taught me how to drum, period. I could read music from piano lessons I was forced to take as a kid. Years later, I purchased realistic rock by Carmine Appice sat down at a drum set for the very first time, and went through the book alone, methodically. The book took me from complete laymen to able drummer. It is a fantastic teaching tool.
Appice is often overlooked for his accomplishments because he did not stay with one band for an extended period, but for my money there is no one better, technically, creatively or as a showman. in my mind he is the president of rock drummers.

Any good electronic drummer would hopefully agree: it's just not the same. Apples and oranges. And candy.
